Probably the best known speciality of Niederlausitz is jacket potatoes with curd cheese and linseed oil. The potatoes are cooked in their skins and peeled at the table. The curd is seasoned with a little milk, salt, pepper and fresh chives. On the table is a small bottle of this oil, which is then poured over the curd at will. In the past it was also quite common to dip bread in the oil and then eat it.
Once a poor man’s meal, it’s now hip. This oil is a power food, contains no carbohydrates and is therefore also suitable for diabetics.
It is definitely worth looking for a good oil mill that produces cold pressed and natural oils.
