Dyeing Easter eggs naturally

Colorful Easter eggs are probably the most symbolic image for the Easter holidays. They can be painted, glued, sprayed, left completely natural or dyed. If you don’t want to use dye tablets from the shops, you can also dye Easter eggs naturally with ingredients from the kitchen.

So get to the kitchen and refrigerator. Here we show how you can achieve wonderful results in a simple way with natural foods, spices and a little vinegar. This method produces pastel colors.

And this is how easy you make a color mixture for Easter eggs.

Easter egg color green with the herb of carrots / carrots

500g fresh carrot greens cut into small pieces
3/4 l water
1/2 tsp. potash / sodium carbonate (baking ingredient)

Mix the finely chopped greens with the potash in the water. Boil everything for 30 – 40 minutes and leave to cool. Pass the broth through a sieve, retaining only the liquid.
Move the egg more often each time. Depending on the desired colour intensity, leave in the dye bath for 1 to 2 hours or longer.

Easter egg color orange / yellow with carrots / carrots

500g fresh carrots cut into small pieces
1 l water
1/2 tsp. potash / sodium carbonate (baking ingredient)

500g fresh beetroot cut into small pieces
1 l water
1/2 tsp. potash / sodium carbonate (baking ingredient)

Mix the finely chopped beetroot with the potash in the water. Boil everything for 30 – 40 minutes and leave to cool. Pass the broth through a sieve, retaining only the liquid.
Move the egg more often each time. Depending on the desired colour intensity, leave in the dye bath for 1 to 2 hours or longer.

Easter egg color yellow with turmeric

3 tsp turmeric (turmeric, spice)
1 l water
1/2 tsp. potash / sodium carbonate (baking ingredient)

Soak turmeric in water for 30 minutes. Bring to the boil together with the potash and simmer everything on low heat for about 30 – 40 minutes and then cool down. Pass the broth through a sieve, retaining only the liquid. Move the egg more often each time. Depending on the desired colour intensity, leave in the dye bath for 1 to 2 hours or longer.

Easter Egg Color Reddish with Senna Leaves

3 tsp senna leaves (as tea from the pharmacy)
1 l water
1/2 tsp. potash / sodium carbonate (baking ingredient)

Soak the tea in the water for 30 minutes. Bring to the boil together with the potash and simmer everything on low heat for about 30 – 40 minutes and then cool down. Pass the broth through a sieve, retaining only the liquid. Move the egg more often each time. Depending on the desired colour intensity, leave in the dye bath for 1 to 2 hours or longer.

TIP

The eggs should be cleaned in advance with vinegar to achieve an even and intense color. After dyeing, rub the eggs with a little cooking oil – this will make them shine and protect the contents.
