Rotspon – a Hanseatic red wine

Rotspon is an old German term for red wine. Spon is a Low German term and means chip.

The special feature of the Hamburg, but also Lübeck or Bremen Rotspon is its origin: in Bordeaux. From here the barrels were transported by ship to the Hanseatic cities. Here they were further stored and expanded. Finally, they are bottled here.

Due to the particularly good wooden barrels, the storage in cellars, the duration of the storage and skilful blending, the French merchants already found in the Middle Ages that the wine acquired a particularly good taste in this way.
