Mashed potatoes are probably eaten in one way or another in every region. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania the Stamptüfften (Tüfften = potatoes) are served with buttermilk and fried bacon cubes. The buttermilk is not necessarily mixed in, but poured over the mashed potatoes in the plate.
This hearty recipe with potatoes is very easy to cook.

Ingredients & Shopping list
- 1 kg potatoes
- 150 g bacon
- 100 g onions if desired
- 400 ml buttermelk
- Peel and chop the potatoes and cook until soft.
- In the meantime, peel the onions and dice them together with the ham. Fry in a pan until crispy.
- Drain the cooking water and pound the potatoes dry. Alternatively, mash with a fork.
- Mix the mashed potatoes with ham and onions. Arrange on deep plates. Add the buttermilk.
