False Hare for Easter

Instead of serving lamb or the Easter bunny at Easter brunch, you can also use a classic recipe: the False Hare. This is a meatloaf filled with hard-boiled eggs inside and cooked in the casserole on the stove or in a baking pan in the oven.


The popular Easter lamb baking pan is used here for a hearty meal instead of a sweet cake. Instead of the eggs, a carrot can also serve as a filling. 2 bay leaves are used as ears and cloves serve as eyes and nose. A little eye-catcher on the board. The meatloaf is sliced and served warm or cold.

Recipe False Hare for Easter

A new traditional meatloaf recipe.

Ingredients & Shopping list

  • 250 g minced beef
  • 250 g minced pork
  • 1 buns, soaked in water or milk
  • 1 egg
  • salt, pepper, nutmeg
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tbsp Breadcrumbs
  • 1-2 tsp starch flour
  • water
  • 3 hard-boiled eggs


  • Squeeze the rolls well. Peel and finely dice the onion.
  • Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  • Mix the meat with egg ,spices, onion and bread roll. If the meat is still too moist, add some breadcrumbs.
  • Grease a cake tin for a lamb. Pour some of the mince into the dish. Make sure that the head is sufficiently filled. Place 2 hard-boiled eggs and some diced carrots in between, if desired. Pour the rest of the mince mixture on top.
  • Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven on the middle shelf and cook for 45 minutes.
  • Then turn off the oven and leave the roast to stand for 10 minutes.
  • Remove the meatloaf from the baking dish, place on a bed of herbs and cress. Serve cold or warm cut into slices.
